Charmin rolls into CES 2020 with TP bot, smell detector, and VR porta-potty

What happens when you’re stranded on the bowl without tissue paper? Did you ever wish you were forewarned about a stinky bathroom? Have you imagined being in better places while procrastinating in the loo? What does all this have to do with technology? TP-maker Charmin has the answers.

The company is presenting three cheeky concepts at CES 2020 that aim to deliver a better bathroom experience from start to flush.

Charmin RollBot

The first one is a TP-delivering robot. For all those who forget to replenish their toilet paper stock, the Charmin RollBot is here to help. It’s a Bluetooth controlled robot that you can summon in your time of need using your phone. The bear-faced bot has antennas that will detect your call mid-go. It will then use infrared sensors to navigate your home and reach you with a payload of TP. Watch the video below to see the bot in action.

Charmin SmellSense

The second invention from Charmin will warn you if someone dropped a smelly deuce before you walk into the bathroom. Called SmellSense, the electronic sensor detects carbon dioxide or hydrogen sulfide found in poopIt then notifies you via a Go/No Go display on the status of the stench and when it’s safe to go in. See how it works in the video below.

Charmin V.I.Pee

Lastly, Charmin had reimagined the on-the-go bathroom experience with its V.I.Pee porta-potty. The premium portable toilet comes equipped with the Oculus Rift S VR headset. The company imagines a future where you wouldn’t want to miss an important moment — whether it be an event or concert — while sitting on the throne. With the V.I.Pee, you can sit on the pot, strap-on the in-built VR headset, and enjoy nature’s call while watching your favourite content in surround sound. Check it out in the video below.

Sadly, none of these bathroom-tech innovations from Charmin are headed out to retail anytime soon. For now, their presence is restricted to the CES 2020 showfloor.

“At Charmin, we’re always on a mission to bring people a better bathroom experience, and while that starts with the best TP, Charmin GoLab allows us to finally expand beyond just the seat,” Rob Reinerman, Charmin Brand Director, said in a press release. “The concepts we’re bringing to CES are a playful way to showcase our relentless obsession with helping people Enjoy the Go now and into the future.”

For what it’s worth, the bathroom experience of the future looks pretty cool.
