How to hard reset Samsung Galaxy Note 9

You only need to hard reset your Galaxy Note 9 if you can no longer access Settings or if the phone get stuck while booting up. It’s basically just like the factory reset and both have the same benefits but the difference is how they’re carried out. In this post, I will walk you through on how to hardware your Note 9 but before that, I will differentiate the two resets so that it would be clearer for all our readers what we mean if we use hard reset and factory reset.

The usual factory reset is when you bring the phone back to its default configuration through the Settings menu. Needless to say, your phone must, at least, be able to open the Settings app to be able to do this. However, if it’s not booting up properly or takes a long time to open applications, then it’s time you performed the hard reset or what we often call “master reset.”

For owners who are looking for a solution to a different problem, drop by our troubleshooting page for we have already addressed some of the most common problems with this device. Browse through the page to find issues that are similar with yours and use the solutions we suggested. If they don’t work or if you need further assistance don’t hesitate to contact us by filling up our Android issues questionnaire.

Before you perform the hard reset, if possible, backup your files and data as they will be deleted. Also, try to remove your Google account from your phone or at least, try to see if you know your password because if the account isn’t removed, the Factory Reset Protection (FRP) will be triggered and if you don’t know your Google ID and password and use a different account in setting it up, you will be locked out of your device. With all that being said, here’s how it’s done…

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the green Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  4. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
  5. Press Power button to select.
  6. Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
  7. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  8. When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  9. Press the Power key to restart the device.
